The Stitch Witches of Casas Adobes Congregational Church, UCC, attracted a crowd of enthusiastic viewers to their Quilt Exhibit Saturday and Sunday, January 21 and 22: not just church members and their friends but quilters from the greater Tucson area and people who had read about the show in a two-page spread in the Arizona Daily Star's Northwest Section.
There were 53 different pieces to view --- mostly quilts of varying size and style --- but also some fun things like quilted vests and even a sunhat. In addition to their own work, the women displayed half a dozen or more historic quilts handed down by family members.
The Stitch Witches set up sewing machines and work tables in one corner of the exhibit area so they could demonstrate how quilts are designed and made. There were photo scrapbooks showing quilts the women had sewn and donated to hospices and children's agencies. The 50th Anniversary Quilt and the Pentecost Wind and Fire banners were on display in the Sanctuary.
Current members of the Stitch Witches are Carol Bogg, Ruth Clough, Suellen Dean, MaryAnn Eberbach, Chris Geymer, Linda Harris, Shaun Robinson, Chris Sternberg, and Elba Visbeek. Sally Kabat, the group's founder, came from her home out of state for the show and a reunion week with her CACC friends. Other Ex:officio members of the group who exhibited their quilts are Thelma Libby, Barbara Koch, and Judie Glasner.
The exhibit, part of the 2012 Adventures in Art Series, was sponsored by the Growth & Development Committee and its PR Team.
