Grace Bunker, a CACC member who spent 2001-2005 as a missionary educator in Sri Lanka, provided real perspective when she joined Associate Minister Marie Bacchiocchi in a dialogue sermon about Global Ministries November 20. Grace taught music and conversational English at three schools and also provided support to small congregations. She served at a time when the country was experiencing an uneasy "cease fire" in a period of civil strife. She found hope in the hard-working, innovative young pastors she met.
If you missed this interesting conversation about missionary work today, calls to service, how the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church/Disciples of Christ combine their mission efforts in Global Ministry you can hear it on this website. Return to the home page, left column, and click on Sermon Audio. The sermons and topics are listed.
An interesting note: This week the UCC announced the appointment of Julianna Nitz, a member of Central Christian Church in Lexington, Ky, to serve a one-year term as a Global Mission intern with the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India in Sri Lanka beginning January 1. She will work as a music teacher at the Uduvil Girls College --- just as Grace Bunker did.
